The unique concentration of public scientific and research institutions accounts for the very good climate for innovation in the European Central Germany Metropolitan Region. More than 100 scientific institutes, including several branches of the Fraunhofer, Max Planck, Helmholtz and Leibniz societies, are based there. Their industry-related research is harnessed by the private sector in the region for the development of new products and processes.
